We’re delighted to be taking part in Podcasthon for the first time, between 15th and 21st March 2025.

If you’ve not heard of Podcasthon before, it’s an initiative where podcasters sign-up to dedicate at least one episode that they release between those dates, to raising awareness of a charity.

As genealogists, we sometimes find horrible old terms in the records we research with that refer to mental health conditions, and the institutions that attempted to ‘treat’ those who entered them.

We’ve recorded a special brand new episode for release during Podcasthon, which tells the story of a woman whose mental health suffered in early 20th century England, resulting in her spending decades in institutions. To help us navigate this complex story, we’re also joined by a second guest to discuss the history of mental health, and the impact of her diagnosis and treatment on her and her family.

Our episode will be raising awareness of mental health issues, and the charity Mind.

Look out for our new episode on March 18, 2025.
